Australian water bottle brand Frank Green has quickly become a cult pick for young, fashionable and well-hydrated people across the country.

The brand's huge metallic water bottles, stamped with its distinctive logo, are a must-have item and are of particular viral interest on TikTok.

But despite its huge popularity, not many people know the true origin of Frank Green's name.

Founded in 2014 by Melbourne-based Benjamin Young, many people mistakenly think the brand is named after its owner.

In truth, however, Frank Green is named after the company's sustainability ethos.

"We are frank about living green," the company states on its website.

"We started with a simple, honest approach to sustainability – to reduce single-use plastic waste by reimagining cups and bottles."

Young echoed this sentiment in an interview with A Little Find in 2021, explaining the company was born out of a passion for sustainability and encouraging people to use reusable water bottles.

"My vision was to change the way people thought about reusable products, which is how Frank Green was born," he said.

"It's Frank Green's mission to motivate others to live more sustainably and to reduce unnecessary waste."

Young added: "It started with reusable cups, then reusable bottles, now we have a larger range of products and are introducing much more in the near future."

The company sells reusable coffee cups, water bottles, homewares and food containers. It also has a line of pet products.

The most well-known item, however, is the 500ml, 1L and 2L water bottles, which have a distinctive shape and come in a variety of colours.

According to Forbes , Frank Green experienced triple-digit growth in FY2021 and it was valued at $20 million in 2019.

Recently, the brand had a huge spike in interest on TikTok after customers embraced its "mystery box" sale.

The boxes sold out in just two weeks and it included a variety of products, including water bottles and coffee cups, in surprise colours and styles.
